Jessica Arends, RCC
I want to get to know what is important to you, so that I can support you towards your personal goals. Our first session will be focused on identifying what you hope to get out of counselling.
From there, I draw on my various training and experience to move us forward. You should have a clear idea of what we are doing, as well as measurable outcomes at the end of our time together.
I have been working in the field for over 10 years, and have been pursuing professional development and clinical supervision since completing my masters. My approach is integrative and person-centered, utilizing skills and techniques from attachment theory, CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), DBT (dialectical behavioural therapy), EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), ego state, somatic therapy and mindfulness.
Most of my work experience has been with survivors of trauma and abuse, so I have pursued extensive training in trauma therapy. I am also experienced in working with anxiety, depression, suicidality, PTSD, traumatic incidents at work, spiritual trauma, and relationship challenges.
I come from a settler heritage, but I have walked alongside people from many different backgrounds, including indigenous peoples. I have a deep respect and appreciation for indigenous knowledge and ways of healing.
